Structure of Atoms
Atoms are composed
of a nucleus and electrons bound to the nucleus. The nucleus is a small but
heavy combination of positively charged protons and neutral neutrons. The
electrons are around the nucleus. The amount of positive electricity that the
protons have is equal to the amount of negative electricity that the electrons
possess. Atoms usually have the same number of protons and electrons so it is
able to be neutral. Electrons are thought to be circling the nucleus on shells.
The amount of electrons that can occupy a shell is limited. Atoms that have a
shortage of electrons are positive ions and those with too much are negative
ions
QUANTITY OF ELECTRICITY AND CURRENT
Q or q= charge (unit: Coulomb) Iori= current (unit: Ampere) t= time (unit: seconds)
When a current of I flows for t seconds, the quantity
of electricity q that is carried is expressed by this equation.
q=It

(t=

This diagram will help with memorising this equation.
