Evaluation for Interior Design Assignment

This project is not only environmental design, but can include product design and communication design. The process leading up to the final design could have been completed earlier in order to develop the ideas that are required for the final design more quickly. I would consider my design to be successful if customers want to enter the shop and look around. That was the sole aim of my design brief. Although accessibility was mentioned in my brief, interior design which is friendly to children or the visually impaired would not be adding to the positive effect on the general population of visitors. Space for more people to look around the store was considered.

The positives of this project are very apparent. We learned the importance of efficient time management and planning in advance. Design briefs, research materials, ideation, and evaluating work are some skills which will require development.

Looking back on the project, I find that the research was the most important aspect. Without it, mistakes and impossible sizes result. The documentation and layout of research was more difficult than expected. I found that sizes and actual measurements were important, but in the final drawing, approximations and adjustments created a more pleasing look. The perspective drawing was completed quickly but the details took time to produce.

Philosophy Statement for Australian Holiday Houses (Riverside and Rural)

We use holiday houses only during holidays. It is not a permanent residence, and therefore can easily incorporate environmentally friendly concepts. Glen Murcutt’s techniques for Australian houses must be considered. The attention to details will help create a relaxing atmosphere during the holiday stay. Sound proof windows and carefully considered materials are some examples of the details. Good views of the surrounding land are a prerequisite. Modern architectural ideas and concepts will be used for the effect. Holiday houses must be different from normal residential housing. Holidays are different from the usual working life. Many aspects of normal housing will not be required. Holiday housing should be used to relax and clear the mind. The stresses of everyday life should be relieved from the people. Nature is the starting point, the final measure of the fitness of a form to its purpose. The house should be lifted above the ground in order to establish a greater distance between the dwelling and nature. This small house will have 2 bedrooms, with a combined living-dining room, a kitchen laundry, and a simple bathroom. The space-efficient design of camping cars can also be used as a source of inspiration. I will also include 1 study/spare room that will jut out from the cantilevered level.

FOR THE CHAIR DESIGN, I ORIGINALLY CONSIDERED USING VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PLASTICS. FOR MY RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND VARIOUS IMAGES OF PLYWOOD CHAIRS/FURNITURE AND CARDBOARD CHAIRS. THE FINAL DESIGN OF THE LOUNGE CHAIR WILL INCORPORATE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THIS RESEARCH.

MY DESIGN OF A LOUNGE CHAIR MUST BE SOFT AND COMFY, ALLOWING PEOPLE TO SIT AND ENGAGE IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES. PLYWOOD LOUNGE CHAIRS WILL NORMALLY REQUIRE CUSHIONING TO ACHIEVE THIS. THE ABILITY TO PAINT THE PLYWOOD BOARD BEFORE SETTING IT UP IS INTERESTING. THE BASIC CONCEPT UNDERLYING MANY OF THESE CHAIRS IS ITS SMALL SIZE/PORTABILITY AND UNIQUENESS OF SHAPE. COMFORT OF THE USER HAS NOT BEEN CONSIDERED ENOUGH. WHEN MANY SHEETS OF CARDBOARD ARE USED TOGETHER, THE DURABILITY INCREASES. PLYWOOD, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS MORE SUITED TO THINNER DESIGNS. BENT SHAPES DO LOOK BETTER THAN THE STRAIGHT CHAIRS.

THE ABILITY TO STORE SMALLER CHAIRS WITHIN LARGER CHAIRS IS A GOOD QUALITY OF SMALLER CHAIRS, AS IT SAVES SPACE WITHIN THE HOUSE. BENT PLYWOOD/CARDBOARD IS VERY COMMONLY USED BY MANY DESIGNERS. SLOTTED PIECES CANNOT GUARANTEE STABILITY AND LONG-TERM USE. BOLTED PIECES ARE STURDIER AND JOINED PIECES REQUIRE MORE ENERGY DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS.

“AN ARMCHAIR THAT ADAPTS ITSELF TO THE SHAPE OF THE PERSON" IS HOW THE JAPANESE DESIGNER TOSHIYUKI KITA DEFINED HIS WINK ARMCHAIR. THIS CONCEPT ENSURES THAT THE FINAL DESIGN IS COMFORTABLE FOR THE USER. THE BACK OF THE CHAIR IS CURVING ONTO THE SEAT. THE LEGS OF THIS CHAIR CAN BE CHANGED INTO 3 DIFFERENT TYPES. IT IS PRESENTING ONE IDEA OF FURNITURE WHICH IS NATURAL IN ITS SURROUNDINGS AND THE LIVES OF PEOPLE. BY USING NATURAL MATERIALS, IT REDUCES THE BURDEN WHICH WILL BE PLACED ON THE ENVIRONMENT AFTER DISPOSAL. USING WOOD WILL ALLOW USERS TO ENJOY THE CHANGING NATURE OF THE MATERIAL AND CHANGE THE SEAT COVERING TO PREVENT BOREDOM. BY HAVING SEVERAL TYPES/ DESIGNS/LAYOUTS, MORE PEOPLE WILL USE THIS PRODUCT.
