Natural Selection Modelling

Aim: To simulate the changing population of frogs in both swamps and forests over less than 10 years (taking predators into consideration as well) and describe differences that can be observed.

Hypothesis:The green frogs will be the majority in most populations; in the forest the green frogs will dominate in the end, in the swamp the yellow frogs will dominate.

Analysis

9- Help: isolate 2 populations swamp all turn yellow

Forest all turn green- green’s alleles: yellow and red… 20 red genes and 20 yellow genes 10 reds and 10 yellows for green: 30 red genes and 30 yellow genes

a. Geographical isolation is characterised in this experiment by the difference of the swamp and forest. Natural features are the main cause of isolation. These include rivers and mountain ranges. The geographical isolation of landmasses by continental drift.

Fluctuation of green or red then all become the same

Gene pool change- eliminated others

Swamp and forest- isolated from each other- geographical

Reproductive: they cannot reproduce at all due to position

8 mutations are cause of natural variation- mistake occurs- chance of mistake

What happens from the genes- what is happening to the genes why is red and yellow suddenly appearing?

Analyse the genetics e.g. red frogs…
