50 Word Stories

Hidden Objects in Bamboo:In the middle of a wasted land, a shining bamboo surprised me. I found it intriguing and wanted to see the inside to discover the root cause of it. Using a hatchet, I hacked at the stalk. The root was a battery instead of a baby girl from the moon.(This is a story set in the future based on the oldest recorded story in Japanese literature: 「竹取物語」and the character「かぐや姫」who comes from the moon and is found by an old bamboo cutter. In short, she refuses to marry any nobleman’s son and even the Emperor. Eventually, the moon people come and escort her back to the moon, despite the Emperor’s army doing their best to prevent this. The Emperor orders his men to burn the letter and the ‘eternal life potion’ from かぐや姫 saying that ‘Living forever is nothing to me if I won’t ever be able to see the moon people again.’ The smoke from the burning can still be seen over Mt. Fuji)

The Never-Ending Enjoyable Life of An In-House Designer: My day starts with a quick breakfast before work. I go to my desk to check emails. A company partnership compels me to have lunch with other employees. I walk around the office to observe the work of others. Aprivilege allowed only for senior designers, which stimulates the brain.

A Visit to the Translator’s: After alighting the old tram in an old-fashioned section of the town, the tired person moved towards a new office. The boss greeted him at the doorway. He paid the boss money and gave him a sheet of paper. The boss signed it. What a process for a small passport.

Rain inAutumn:The clouds would look like‘someone had insulted them’ before any rain of that scale. Some people would have been affected by that. The clouds passed by quickly and the sun came out. Those under cover looked through the window without memories of the ferocity of the rain and wind.

Qualified Professionals Earn From It and others spend money: Some people don’t respect their ancestors. However, it is their choice whether they want to change. The companies of Asia prefer to choose pretty people over common people. Naturally healthy people should be chosen. No change of social structure will occur until people begin to treat this as an issue.

Too Good To Be True. How some get rich and others become poor: They set up fake offices, move out after finishing their job, and allow others to realise just how dumb they had been. People who trick people as an occupation gain over the misery of others. They use a wide range of methods and move overseas to spend their money freely.

Why bother to live with hope, and suffer: He was diagnosed with a type of cancer. He suffered from the treatment, spent a fortune and died quicker. He should have enjoyed more, by staying away from doctors. Even the greatest people can’t have successful surgeries. To enjoy the rest of his life with uncertainty or suffering with hope?

Keep Greatness Around You: When a person turns mean, they will use everything they have to achieve their purpose. They may want to kick out rivals who are better than themselves for (a better chance in) scholarships. A great president of a medical university collapses. No one around him has the skills to revive him. What a pity.

Sun: From the house on the hill, I look at the rice paddies. The water is always a mirror when viewed from the house. Gold and pink colours shine on the surface. Pure water fresh and cold from the mountain fill the stairs of rice. I go out for a walk.

A Trip on A Tram: The seats are positioned in various places which are not commonly found in trams. The large windows show the scenery pass by clearly. What did the designer intent for the users to experience? The positioning and design of seats is only one aspect. Small children to travellers use this tram.

Goldfish: It uses its energy to push through the water. It eats the food on the surface and then goes searching for extras which may have sunk. The colours and shape of the body is the deciding factor for goldfish competitions. All around the world, people care for goldfish and live.
