VR for what purpose?
To escape this current world
To learn things in another dimension, that is, the internet by immersing oneself in it, or projecting oneself onto an avatar in it
To meet new people
To enhance creativity
To escape depressing thoughts or problems in this world
To consider objectively oneself in the real world
To improve oneself once back in the real world using habits and behaviours acquired in the other world
To overcome disabilities
To acquire skills in technologies by putting them into practice
To learn languages by communicating with others in a more fun and relaxed way
To put into practice various skills across many research fields: Law (of the virtual world), AI (of bots perhaps), HCI (devices), Art (by fans, perhaps even novels are written), Agriculture (training purposes only), Audio, Philosophy/Science - Physics, Mathematics, Traditional Chinese Medicine (training purposes where interactivity helps), Open Systems Science (Sony CSL), Health and Medical Science (training or education purposes), Applied Technologies, Media/3DCG (DCC, Virtual Environments and CAD obviously the basis of VR), Psychology (of the users), History (of the development and user actions), Management (of associated businesses).
In short, VR is for entertainment, but with effort it is an education tool.
An open goal for me is to write a novel of such characters in sapari, for as you might know, Murakami Haruki did incorporate the ‘sheep-man’ and ‘frog-kun’ and other generic animals in his novels. And perhaps animation as well.
I’ll be listening to Murakami Haruki’s Murakami RADIO special live broadcasted yesterday from Kyoto.
Then I’ll watch Aibou (TV asahi drama) New Year’s day special.
All with VPN.

Kyoto Laboratory – they did this after I advised them to choose Adelaide as their next office for the next decade with a new goal I didn’t fully articulate at the time in 2019.

wow.
Sony Computer Science
Laboratories, Kyoto Laboratory (Sony CSL Kyoto) is an experimental new branch
office of Sony Computer Science Laboratories Inc., launched in Apr. 2020.
The lab is built on
the sober recognition that the wonders of modern technological advances —
despite their undeniable allure and benefits — have produced a range of
unexpected, detrimental effects on our individual and collective well-being.
Our research will focus on exploring alternative paths of technological
development, that are truer to human values, cultures, and traditions.
The lab is located in
the heart of Kyoto, and will initially begin operation with a modest research
staff of three scientists: Jun Rekimoto, Lana Sinapayen, and Yuichiro Takeuchi.
We plan to gradually expand the team, hiring talented researchers from around
the world. This website will periodically be updated with new information, so
please stay tuned!
Recruitment of
Post-Doctoral Researcher
Recruitment of
Student Researcher(Art/Craft/Design)
So the goal I failed to articulate was: 'explore alternative paths of technological development
that are truer to human values, cultures, and traditions'
It doesn't take a genius to recognise that modern technology, modern medicine, modern whatnot has had huge detriments on people's health, wellbeing, ways of life etc, so I guess my role in the founding of Kyoto Lab is merely a minor pressure that forced them to create a new lab.
They already aimed to tackle 'global agenda issues' like climate and population, pandemics and so on
If I were employed in CSL, I could get the CP Bureau easily in no time I reckon.
I wonder if I have to go to Kyoto to get employed
Perhaps I can be employed without a salary
And work from Adelaide
If CSL had not changed course, Sony could continue to churn out electronics for the waste dump, increase garbage in the world, and have just 20 people try and find solutions to compensate for many thousands of employees creating games for people to get addicted, for people to stay seated watching TV etc
And finally people would have chips planted in their brains, their thoughts controlled as Orwell wrote about, and upload their soul into the cloud to live forever
I felt CSL, and many others like them
(Microsoft Research is also famous) were doing unnecessary things in the name
of improving humanity. I criticised them harshly.
for those with a Walkman OS walkman device, the https://www.mrwalkman.ml/ site lists firmware versions to upgrade your functionality or sound signature to epic modded sound – the kind that Sony audio engineers get to listen to; unlike stock firmware for the masses.
